The Nari Mangala Pāt is a song traditionally performed at a ceremony to honour a person who has killed a tiger. Obviously such ceremonies are seldom now performed. This solicited performance took place in Poradu, on the 3rd November, 2008. The singers were C. Nanaiah, C. Monnappa, N. Ponnappa, and M.C. Somaiah. There had been no Nari Mangala in that area for several decades. The song can be sung by any Kodava group. The recording has been equalized for text clarity.[1].
The song is embedded here as a musical interlude for the book ‘Supporting Vulnerable Traditions: Keeping it Going in Contexts of Continuity and Change’ edited by Georgia Curran and Mahesh White-Radhakrishnan (Routledge, in preparation).
